At the beginning of Malverne’s history is had many streams that caused problems for the Rockaway Indians living there. As time went on it helped create a place for residents to skate. All of the water contributed to the lack of a stable railroad system until the Long Island Rail Road. The village got its name in 1921 from Malvern, which is a village in England. There was some racial tension during the 1960s when a black town nearby shut down their school and sent their children to Malverne a mainly white neighborhood.

Malverne Village
Malverne is a town located on the southern part of Long Island. It is relatively close to New York City and very close to some of the best beaches in New York. Many of the Towns first residents were farmers. Around the late 1800s the town was commonly called “Skunk’s Misery” because of all the manure the farmers bought. As the development of industrialization occurred the Gaddis administration of Malverne prevented a coal company from moving in and creating a business. This was the beginning of keeping Malverne a small town without any big businesses.

Malverne Village Hall

If you are ever in Malverne and you might care to take a stroll around the pleasant streets. The most popular avenue is full of cheery people doing their daily routines such as picking up dry cleaning and grabbing a bite to eat at the local delicatessen. However, the sound of bustling children might take you to a side road filled with tae-kwon doe centers and a neighborhood icy shop. Kids are usually running around after their tae-kwon doe lessons to pick up one of their favorite tasty Italian ices. The Ices come in all different flavors but the predominantly chosen flavor is cherry. It is easy to recognize this because many of the children have small red stains on their uniforms. It is surely a main attraction on Church Street. As you walk down Church Street you will also run into a Fire Department, which is generally a quite place. It is a volunteer fire squad and there are usually no major fire problems in Malverne. Even though there are not many fires in Malverne many of the fathers in this town are apart of this volunteer team. Across from the Fire Department lies the Village Hall.
The Village Hall appears to be a rather new building in this town. It looks like a very well kept area that is maintained by the expensive village taxes. The lawn is properly manicured. They have carefully shaped shrubs and color coordinated red and pink flowers to give the building a proper and hospitable feel. It is has beautiful brick steps that help the villagers get atop of the platform to enter the building. The hall has 6 white pristine columns that have a very classical Greek architecture feel to it. Besides the exquisite welcoming décor the building is predominantly covered in red brick and some vinyl siding. There is also a deep green and gold sign that says “Malverne Village Hall” that is surrounded with all different sorts of flowers. Behind the convenient sign is a gray pole that has the American Flag all the way at the top. The flag is not identifiable in the photograph but promotes a strong feeling of patriotism.
